DIRECTV Wireless Genie

This worked great for me. I already had 1 Genie Mini Wireless so I had the wireless bridge which made this one really easy to install. Before buying it I called DirecTV to order one and they wanted to charge me for installation even though I would be installing it myself. So I ordered it from Amazon, set it up myself and called them to activate it and they did not charge me any extra for activating it. Also, they don’t want you to have more than 3 Genie Mini’s, but I now have 2 Genie Mini’s and 2 Genie Mini Wireless clients and they work great you just have to remember that only 3 will work at a time.

Wireless Genie system is amazing, and well worth the cost if you have reason to make TV viewing remote, or provide viewing in a room where traditional coax-cable does not exist. I like having the ability to watch the game in the garage while working on a project. This is my second wireless unit, the first being installed by DIRECTV about 4 months prior.

Now the bad part... DIRECTV frowns on adding any equipment to (as the tech called it) "their" system... reminds me of before Ma Bell underwent deregulation. Any how, DIRECTV will require a monthly fee of $6.00 to use this device. For me, it was not possible to add/change/modify any of the registered client devices from the DIRECTV server without calling them. And although I was able to pair the device to the server, it would not complete the setup process because apparently DIRECTV already had other client devices using up all available "locations". In short, you must go your main receiver server and check to see home many locations (e.g. client devices) are registered. In my case there were three, and apparently the server is only permitted to have three, so adding a forth required me to remove one of the non-wireless devices from my configuration.

In the end, DIRECTV was helpful in resolving the issue, and I was able remove one of the other unused units (locations), however the process took around 2 hours of my time and was more complicated than expected.
