Emerson 50 Inch TV

To be clear, a lot of people are writing reviews about the LF501EM5F, which some observant reviewers have noted is basically a rebadged LF501EM4F, albeit - seemingly - with a few added features or marketing gimmicks.

It seems the only difference between the 5F and 4F, is the 5F is touted as having Brilliant Motion Rate 120. If that sounds like 120Hz, it's not. It's just a software trick to smooth the motion on the screen in some situations.

All in all, this appears to be a very solid unit - and a real bargain if you stood in line at Walmart and burned a couple hours for a $200 50" LED HDTV. 2 years ago, 3 years ago ... 50" screens were in the hundreds and thousands of dollars, so prices are certainly coming down.

This replaced a 7 year old, $500 32" Vizio - and though the screen is not as bright or crisp as my older TV, I'm enjoying the bigger size and flatter panel.

Listen, you get what you pay for. For its regular price of ~$450-500, this is a 3-star TV at best. But for the value, I'm bumping it up to 4 stars.

I just purchased this television for an amazing price. It is replacing a five year old Samsung that had defective parts. When I first opened the box there was a hunk of metal that I knew was part of the base. There should have been a paper that showed how to put it together, but there wasn't. It is pretty simple to assemble though. The t.v. is very sturdy and the stand is solid. The remote control is very simple and small. Even though it's a little flimsy, I like it way better than the ill shaped Samsung controller. The speaker on the t.v. sounds great and it even has a 5 band eq. I hooked the Emerson up to the same outside antenna and it pulls in channels much stronger than the Samsung. The box said 120 brilliant motion rate on the Emerson, but in the manual it said 60 refresh rate. Regardless, this picture is amazing and has tons of settings. I sit about 13 feet away in my living room and this size is perfect for me. My only complaint is no audio out for my old Pioneer stereo, but I've been meaning to upgrade anyway and with the 3 HDMI ports it will be easy. The functionality, sound, and picture quality of this t.v. are great. I'm so glad that I bought it.
